Amenda has worked in the field of mental health for over 10 years, working for both government and private organizations. Prior to joining WorkSafeBC in 2014, she worked as a psychiatric social worker and forensic case manager for the Provincial Health Services Authority (PHSA). She has been involved in mental health from providing support to adults with mental health issues, to working with family members who have lost a loved one in a workplace accident. Amenda has worn several hats at WorkSafeBC, including working as a Case Manager in Claims, Investigations Officer in Fatal and Series Injury Investigations, and currently as an Industry Specialist for Mental Health Injury Prevention in Industry and Labour Services.
Amenda graduated from SFU with a Bachelorís Degree with Honors in Criminology and went on to complete her Master of Social Work from UBC in 2008. She has since taken additional training in Project Management, Grief and Bereavement Support, Critical Incident Stress Management and continues to practice as a registered social worker at a Vancouver clinic specializing in support for adults struggling with anxiety and other mental health issues. She has also volunteered for the BC Crisis Center, as a youth educator providing workshops on suicide prevention for youth, and is currently a member of the BC College of Social Workers.
